Guidance and support choosing the right subjects and charting your IB course.
Advice based on experience and expertise
Choosing the right subjects can set up a student for life. Make sure your child starts the IB right by speaking with an EIB Consultant to pick the perfect subjects
Help finding the perfect balance for each student
The IB Diploma offers students breadth and rigour, while also delaying the early specialisation other educational programmes can encourage students into. For some, however, the Diploma can feel overly restrictive, and the need to take a variety of subjects limiting when it comes to curating their post-16 education (particularly for students with an idea of the career they'd like to follow), and potentially disadvantage students when making their university applications.
Not only do students need to navigate this complex, new system (with 'subject areas', 'Highers' and 'Standards', the 'Extended Essay', 'TOK', 'CAS' etc.) and make choices with life-changing potential, but are also required to at a young age. Doing so demands not only an in-depth understanding of how IB subject selection works, but also their likely future attainment, career paths, university entry requirements, individual subject assessment methods

Donella called me absolutely raving about Sam and the conversation they had. She said that he had a bunch of ideas that were helpful to her and she sounded really enthused. We all appreciate the connection so much. I think it gave her some valuable perspective and things to think about.

In 2019 the IBO introduced significant changes to the Mathematics syllabus on the IB, replacing the previous system of Maths delivered at Higher Level, Standard Level, and Studies with a two-route system, requiring students to choose between 'Maths: Applications & Interpretations' and 'Maths: Analysis & Approaches', each at Higher or Standard Level. The new syllabus will be first assessed by the cohort graduating in May 2021.
As a result, the new the routes offer students differing theoretical approaches to Maths, as well as a divergent skillset. The response from UK universities has been varied, with some - like the University of Oxford - accepting either route and others - like the University of Cambridge - insisting students take Analysis & Approaches. Responses across the sector have been similarly varied.
As a result, it is critical students make the correct decision in choosing their Maths route on the IB so as not to be disadvantaged at a later date. Alongside our insight into the changes as a team of Coordinators and Consultants, and EIB Admission's expertise in university applications, we've also worked closely with IBO Examiners to prepare our tutoring team for the new syllabus. As a result, we've acquired a sophisticated understanding of the considerations students must make when choosing their Mathematics route so as to be able advise students to make the best choice for them.
It's a pleasure (and a relief!) to know of institutions like yours that can guide students - and parents.
